Gdynia International School (GIS) Primary School, opened in 2021, following the success of GIS Preschool, which was founded in 2013.  The School allows children in the Preschool to continue their education and it creates new opportunities for young children in the region to gain a high level of education, mostly through the English language. The school principal is Kevin D’Arcy, who has been leading educational institutions in the Tricity since 2007.

The teaching staff is selected according to their qualifications, experience, and a proven aptitude for teaching and inspiring children. We work towards all children being fluent in 3 languages.  The 1st two languages are English and Polish.  In 2021/2022, the 3rd language is Spanish.  As the school grows, there will be more language options.

The teaching programme follows the British National Programme and also meets the requirements set out by the Polish Ministry of Education (MEN). The weekly teaching programme includes English, Polish, Spanish, mathematics, music, art and physical education. Students learn the art of giving presentations and resolving conflicts. There is a principle of fair play, mutual respect and pluralism in the school. Children are encouraged and guided by teachers to behave in a way that expresses high cultural and diplomatic values.

After classes children can participate in various extra-curricular clubs – dancing, football, chess, karate or lego robotics. The school gets involved in the city projects, such as “Gdynia on the wave” or “Gdynia on the stones”. The school has a lot of space, a playground, a gym hall, and a dining room. The number of students in each class is selected in a way to ensure the highest effectiveness of teaching.

Every day we work to ensure that the children in our school achieve the highest possible level of educational development. To achieve this, we go well beyond the curriculum. We also support every student in developing skills in the areas of: critical thinking, language development, physical development and musical development. “One of my main inspirations is Benjamin Bloom’s psychological theory of education” says Kevin D’Arcy.
