Summary of the year

The first school year in Gdynia International School Primary School has just ended. It was a time of many challenges and hard work to build our school from scratch. Although we had been prepared for this project for a long time, we still had to overcome many obstacles to be successful. Below we list the most important tasks that we have completed since the beginning of the project.

  1. We had just 5 weeks to prepare a building that had had neither lights nor any fire protection. As well as meeting these various legal standards, we resurfaced the corridor, completely replaced the flooring in one classroom and repainted all of the main space that was used throughout the school year.
  2. We opened the school on September 1, with 18 children in classes 0 to 2.  In February, we opened Class 3.  We ended the year with 30 children in classes 0 to 3.  So far we expect at least 60 children in classes 0 to 5 in September – and that that number of children in the school will grow further during the next school year.  Together with the preschool we will have about 120 children in September, or soon afterwards.
  3. We had many meaningful events, including trips and recorded performances.  On the last day of school we had a real live performance for the parents, followed by a barbeque.
  4. We never closed, even when other schools were on lock-down.
  5. Every day in the school was meaningful! We had many relevant and educational activities.
  6. When we had absent teachers, we managed to cover every lesson in meaningful ways.

We have ambitious plans for the future. We will offer education for preschool up to class 5 from September. Six primary school class rooms will be ready on the 1st floor and a new dining room. We will have another extra entrance. The new playground should be partly ready.  The preschool will be at our new premises from August.

We would like to thank our wonderful children for their commitment during the school year. Many thanks to all of the parents and our staff for your support and enthusiasm for our school – said Kevin D’Arcy, Gdynia International School founder and principal.
